Project Cars Review
Developer Slightly Mad Studios
Publisher Bandai Namco
Platform Xbox One, PS4 & PC.
If you want to know if this is a realistic racing sim that will perfectly recreate what it is like to drive the world’s most expensive cars? Then you are probably coming to the wrong spot as my time spent racing the worlds most expensive cars is very limited. If on the other hand you want to know if it a really fun racing game? Then yes we can confirm that much.
Slightly Mad Studio have pedigree in racing titles, most noticeably they are the guys behind Need for Speed Shift, but with Project Cars they aim to create their own franchise that is set up to take Gran Turismo and Forza head on.
To do this you first need to look good, photo realistic cars is the default not an aspiration and Project Cars delivers. All of the cars look amazing but this is no longer a unique selling point. In fact there is little between all three to set them apart as they all look amazing.
Where Project Cars starts to set itself apart from the pack is its ability to race what you want when you want, in “career” mode. You are not locked into a set time consuming unlocking schedule. You can chose anything from Karts to Formula One cars and everything in between. This is the most appealing aspect of the game, the ease of access to the top cars without having to play in the test or arcade mode and can put all that effort towards your career progression.
This openness and ease of access flows throughout the game, you can change a multitude of different options to make the game as difficult or as easy as you like by adding driving assists, removing failure points, allowing restarts, setting pit strategies or even mess about with pre-set outside influences like weather and time of day.
Overall: An incredibly good looking title, that matches the competition and perhaps eases into the lead with its open and inviting and yet incredibly detailed gameplay.
