From the pen of legendary game developer Tim Schafer comes Brutal legend the first major main stream game from him since he left Lucas Arts. His instantly recognisable art work and ever present humour has teamed up with funny man Jack Black and a few metal cameos from legend in the business like Lemmy and Ozzy Osbourne.
There is no easy way to describe this game it starts out as a standard hack and slash (god of war) style game but quickly develops into a open world, driving, RPG, mixed with a good sprinkling of RTS. While it sounds like a lot it doesn’t get muddled up and once you get to grips with the constantly changing game play styles and controls the game becomes very enjoyable.
The game is set in an alternative world ruled by heavy metal. It is full of weird and wonderful creatures. You are in control of Eddie a roady who has lost faith in the new strain of musicians that have flooded the market. During a concert and accident transports Eddy to this new Metal world where he teams up with the locals to battle to save his new home. As it’s a metal world aspects of the rock world have added enfaces. During the RTS sections you collect fans as money to buy new soldiers who emerge from a stage. Your trusty axe (that’s the guitar not the great big axe you wield) now has extra power you can electrocute, explode and even summon cars and other add on’s by playing killer solos.
This is a very good game packed with different features and styles the art work is brilliant the scripting as with all Tim’s games is funny and charming. And there aren’t too many games that can boast a section where you ride around on the back of Lemmy’s motorbike herding wild pigs !! |
