Where to start with this game? It was billed as a stylish action game that blends gun play with sword play seamlessly together and that is true. It is an action packed blood soaked trill ride. But it is also a really really frustrating game. Graphically its ok it, wont make you stop a look around in awe but it is quite adequate it is similar in looks to GTA4 but without the scale of the city to excuse it.

To describe Wet is quite difficult job. It is a mix match of a whole load of different sources no more so than Mr. Tarantino. Straight away you will notice that this game is shot like it’s a movie. When you start a film real spins and when you die the real spins off the cogs and burns. It has a grainy over lay on the screen the camera angle and sound track are all included to mimic a film it even has ads!. It then takes from a number of games. Tomb Raider, it’s a 3rd person shooter with a female character and a load of similar shooting, jumping and climbing. Mirrors edge and prince of Persia influences can be spotted too with ramp jumps and wall runs vaulting over pipes and swinging from poles. This is in no way a bad thing it has taken good elements from other games and tried to put it together and make it its own.

ONE OF THE MANY DIFFERENT BUT QUITE BORING ON RAIL LEVELS

You play as Rubi she is a gun for hire the story plays out in true B-movie fashion with plenty of over acting plenty of blood and gore and twists and turns along the way. You get a few different aspects to this game for the most part it’s a normal 3rd person plat former but it does have sections of on rail timed button pressing. It also has Rubi vision where the screen goes red, black and white in a sort of photographic negative effect which helps to break up the standard 3d platform game play.

As the game plays out it all too quickly falls into a certain rhythm. You open a door a swarm of enemies attack you the music pumps out and you dispatch the enemies as you try to lock the spawn points. Once this is done you will have a little cut scene then some running climbing/jumping, then another door another swarm of enemies with another song pumping out. This plays out over and over again.

In between the normal level are some quite frustrating levels too which basically involve hitting the right button at the right time as you watch the cut scene these get boring very quickly. One level where you fall from an aero plane and have to dodge the debris was one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve ever had playing a game. Games are meant to be fun and challenging not annoying.

Interacting with the environment is a big part of the game but the controls and camera angles can make it quite fiddly at times sometimes a simple jump goes wrong because a change of camera angle results in Rubi turning at the last second and you jump off a cliff. Other times it’s quite difficult to tell where you are meant to be going, the camera angle doesn’t help here either. But for the most part she will interact well with her surroundings. The game sometimes slips from its free roaming 3D aspects to the on rails aspect which if you’re not expecting will get you killed. You will die a lot in this game and the reels spinning off the cogs and burning every time you die and the subsequent load times will drive you mad after a while.

What it does do right is the combat, it never gets old and will wield you some of the most stylish kills you will ever perform. Diving or slide across a room in slow motion with 360 degree shooting and blasting 3 or 4 enemies away is very satisfying.

Diving, Sliding & Wall running kicks in the slow motion (similar to the Max Payne games), you wield duel guns and can take out two targets at once during slow motion you aim the right gun and the other automatically locks onto another target.

This game is a good effort to do something that looks and feels a bit different. It does always feel like a game that just didn’t get the budget behind it that the concept deserved. In parts you will be delighted with it as it is a lot fo fun but all too quickly you will meet one of the frustrating parts that just take the shine of and already shaky game.

Worth a rent for the combat alone but it’s not a game I could recommend you buying unless you can pick it up on the cheap.
