Lenny Abrahamson’s “Room” Receives Four Academy Awards Nominations.
There was so much to celebrate in Element Picture’s Dublin offices today as their latest film ROOM received an incredible four Academy Awards Nominations. Following her Golden Globe win on Sunday, lead actress Brie Larson continues to impress with another nomination while screenwriter Emma Donoghue was honoured with a nomination for best adapted screenplay. ROOM also secured a nomination in the hotly-contested best picture category and Lenny Abrahamson is up for best director.
Speaking on the nominations, Director Lenny Abrahamson commented “This is an incredible day for everyone involved in ROOM. Thank you to the Academy for honoring us with four Academy Awards Nominations — it’s beyond all our wildest dreams. It is a testament to everyone who gave so much of themselves to make this film happen. I am so proud of Emma Donoghue whose incredible novel started the journey, of Ed Guiney, my filmmaking other half who has been with me, driving the train, from the beginning, and to everyone at Element Pictures Dublin, my filmmaking home, of the extraordinary Brie Larson and the prodigy that is Jacob Tremblay. The 88th Oscars® will be hosted by comedian Chris Rock & held on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
ROOM stars Brie Larson (Short Term 12, The Spectacular Now), Jacob Tremblay (The Smurfs 2, Somnia), Joan Allen (The Bourne Supremacy, Nixon) and William H. Macy (Shameless, Magnolia). Emma Donoghue adapted the screenplay from her book, the award-winning international phenomenon, ROOM.

Told through the eyes of five-year-old-Jack (Tremblay), ROOM is a thrilling and emotional tale that celebrates the resilience and power of the human spirit. To Jack, Room is the world…. It’s where he was born, it’s where he and his Ma (Larson) eat and sleep and play and learn. But while it’s home to Jack, to Ma it’s a prison. Through her fierce love for her son, Ma has managed to create a childhood for him in their ten-by-ten-foot space. But as Jack’s curiosity is building alongside Ma’s own desperation – she knows that Room cannot contain either indefinitely.
Element Pictures’ Ed Guiney (The Lobster, Frank, What Richard Did) produced ROOM with David Gross (What If, Goon). Executive producers are Andrew Lowe (The Lobster, Frank, The Wind that Shakes the Barley) for Element Pictures and Jeff Arkuss (What If) and Jesse Shapira (What If, Goon) for No Trace Camping. Emma Donoghue, Rose Garnett (Film 4), Tessa Ross (Film 4), and David Kosse (Film 4) also serve as executive producers. Irish finance for the film came from the Irish Film Board.
Irish audiences will have the opportunity to see ROOM when it is released tomorrow Friday, January 15th across the country.
