Henry Cavill to play Geralt of Rivia in upcoming Netflix Witcher TV series

Henry Cavill, the Man of Steel himself, will be now the Man of Steel and Silver, as he has been cast in the famous boots of Geralt of Rivia, the grisly hard-boiled main character in Andrzej Sapkowski’s acclaimed novels and our favourite CD Projekt RED’s video games. Being a video game nerd and avid fan of the series itself, he’s keen to get it right for the Netflix TV series, which has been benched for either 2019 or 2020. Sapkowski himself will be creative consultant on the show and is happy to do so; in a press release, Sapkowski is “thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing. I’m excited about our efforts together as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”
As of this moment, there are several certainties: there will be eight episodes, each an hour long. It will be filmed across several locations in Eastern Europe (Poland included). It will be based on the books, not the games (hence why Sapkowski is on board), there will be 3 different directors doing several episodes each, and as of August 2018, the last episode is being written, according to a tweet by Lauren Hissrich, the showrunner. More detailed information can be found on her Twitter page, including character bios, and for those who didn’t read the books, Dandelion’s actual name in the books is Jaskier, and will be thus in the TV series.

In a rather clever Instagram post, Cavill himself confirms the news.
No other main characters have been confirmed as of the date of this post, but we reckon it won’t be long before they’ll be announced.
