World of Speed is a racing MMO featuring real cars and real tracks from around the world. After a brief overview of the game where the team explained how they are taking a different approach to the traditional racing competition by not only focusing on who finishes first but also including a lot of in race challenges to complete, we were ready to burn some rubber.

The selection of cars available in game varies from everyday rides, to tuners, exotic and muscle cars all the way up to the world’s fastest supercars. Each one has its plus point’s such as control, power, speed, or even power and control (which is important for drifting). It really is very much up to your style and the challenges you hope to beat. There is no point having a car that can’t slide around a corner if you are trying to complete the drifting challenge.

As mentioned the race isn’t just about who gets to the end the fastest you also have a number of other challenges to battle the others over. These are fun and add something extra to each race. You might not be the fastest but if you can mastering the turning, the drifting, the drafting challenges then you can still rack up the XP for you and your crew.

The controls were very easy to get to grips with, this is a PC game but as with most racing games on PC the Xbox Controller does a sterling job.

Our first track was the London circuit, it mixes a nice balance of twists and turns with fast open straights.

Our own time with the game highlighted the importance of the challenges, the teams were split into two teams of two to compete against each other. Although I won the race outright followed closely in second and third by the other team my team mate coming last was taking his time to master the challenges. This is what tipped the balance back in our favour. In the second race the positions were the same but my team mate failed to complete the challenges and this cost us dearly.

Overall the two races were incredibly enjoyable, the competition elements gives it an extra edge. No longer are you cursing the fastest car as now there are alternative gameplans to be worked out to snatch victory.

World of Speed is a game we will be keeping an eye on and are looking forward to seeing more of, for those interested in this title the closed beta is now accepting registrations. http://wos.my.com/?lang=en_US
