All Zombies Must Die : Gamescom Hands On Impressions
Developer Double six
Platform PSN, PC
Release Date : Fall 2011
A brand new top down zombie shooter from the award winning team at Double Six (the guys who brought us the excellent Burn Zombie Burn) is set to infest the PSN and PC market this autumn. We got a chance to sit down with James Chew one of the designers of AZMD at Gamescom to take us through what the game is all about and more importantly to give us some hands on time.
All Zombies Must Die is a top down fun arena shooter, that lets up to four players play together against the impending Zombie outbreak. A gamer, a girl a Mad Scientist and an Alien are all that remains between the zombies and all those delicious brains.
Players will be faced with a number of different Zombie types, we got to go up against your standard zombie (if there is such a thing) and some Zombie members of the SWAT teams. The Swat Zombies are much tougher as they still have all their armour intact. You must get around behind them and shoot them in the back. Zombies also can take on different states including getting mutated by radioactive waste which causes them to grow. A Sonic state give them extra sensitive hearing, loud noises stun them but only momentarily until they become much bigger and stronger. There are two more options for you to discover on your own.
Killing the zombies can take many different forms and weapons are assembled from in game items letting you build your own range of assault rifles, dragons breath shotguns, Katana swords that allow you to blast, slash, electrocuted, torched, irradiated and zapped in a number of horrifically hilarious ways.
You can also build a base in the safe house, opening up this option is done by killing all the zombies and this is where the game gets its name. Once you have dispatched all the undead you can open up a few rooms that will allow you to build weapons, regain health and just regroup before the next mad dash outside.
Controls are smooth and easy to pick up, players can jump in and out of games and the whole story is very funny. With plenty of jokes only gamers will get !
Jim Mummery, creative director at Double Six says “After the success of Burn Zombie Burn, we’ve been looking forward to dishing up a new serving of undead craziness but this is no straight sequel. All Zombies Must Die! has its own unique ingredients with weapons-based arena combat, weapon crafting, character development, a whole lot of questing and much much more – all mixed in with a huge portion of zombie action.“
